The Kano State Government has intensified its project monitoring and evaluation drive as the Commissioner for the Ministry of Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME), Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila, embarked on an extensive inspection tour of major infrastructure projects across Kiru and Madobi Local Government Areas.
The monitoring exercise focused on a multi-billion-naira dam construction project, irrigation facilities, road infrastructure, and several other ongoing government interventions aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, improving transportation, and stimulating economic growth in the affected communities.
During the visit to Dan Soshiya town in Kiru Local Government Area, the Commissioner assessed the progress of the ongoing dam construction project, which covers approximately two kilometres in size and is designed to support large-scale irrigation farming across the area.
According to project details, about 1,000 hectares of land have been earmarked for irrigation development, with the first phase targeting the cultivation and development of 500 hectares. Upon completion, the Dan Soshiya Dam is expected to have a storage capacity of about 3.1 billion litres of water, making it one of the strategic agricultural infrastructure projects of the Kano State Government.
The Commissioner, accompanied by a team of engineers and technical experts from the ministry, expressed satisfaction with the quality of work executed and the level of progress recorded on the project.
Speaking during the inspection, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila commended the contractors and consultants for adhering to project specifications while emphasizing the government’s commitment to ensuring value for money, quality assurance, and timely completion of all ongoing projects across the state.
Also speaking, Engr. Aminu Soron Dinki, a consultant to the construction company, assured the Commissioner that the project was being executed strictly in line with approved engineering standards, specifications, and the Bill of Quantities (BQ).
He reaffirmed the commitment of the contractors to delivering a durable and high-quality project capable of meeting the long-term irrigation and water needs of the communities.
As part of the inspection tour, Comrade Sumaila also assessed the ongoing construction of an 11-kilometre feeder road linking Dan Soshiya town to the dam site and irrigation area. The road is expected to enhance accessibility, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce, and support economic activities around the irrigation scheme.
Beyond the Dan Soshiya projects, the Commissioner undertook a comprehensive assessment of a total of 32 projects across Kiru and Madobi Local Government Areas, with 16 projects inspected in each local government.
Among the major projects visited was the ongoing 100-kilometre road project stretching from Sabon Titi Bridge through Madobi, Yako, Kiru, and Kwanar Dangora.
The 32 projects inspected during the exercise have a combined contract value of N67,446,657,646.89
The inspection forms part of the ministry’s mandate to monitor ongoing projects, ensure compliance with contractual obligations, uphold quality standards, and guarantee that public funds are judiciously utilized for the benefit of the people of Kano State.
The Commissioner reiterated that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to delivering impactful, people-oriented projects that will drive sustainable development, boost agricultural production, and improve the living standards of citizens across the state.
