The Kano State Fire Service has rescued a construction worker who was trapped under a collapsed fence wall during a demolition exercise at Kofar Mata Zango in Kano Municipal Local Government Area.
The incident occurred at about 8:49 a.m. on Sunday after the Fire Service’s Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from one Naziru Ahmad, reporting the collapse of a fencing wall at the site.
According to the spokespersosn of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, firefighters from the Service Headquarters were immediately deployed to the scene.
He said the rescue team discovered that a residential building measuring approximately 30 by 20 feet was undergoing demolition when the fence wall suddenly became unstable.
“As one of the workers attempted to escape, Sadiq Ahmad fell, and the collapsing wall trapped him,” the statement said.
The firefighters swiftly launched a rescue operation and successfully pulled the victim out alive.
The injured worker was immediately evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where he was handed over to his brother, Naziru Ahmad, for medical treatment.
The Fire Service said the cause of the incident is under investigation.
It also urged residents, contractors and construction workers to strictly observe safety measures during demolition and construction activities to prevent similar accidents.
