The spokesperson to Kano governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, has reiterated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State is currently operating as a united political bloc, saying the party is stronger, more coordinated, and fully prepared for future elections in the state.

Mr Dawakin Tofa made the statement on Sunday during an appearance on Trust TV’s Sunday Politics, where he was granted a right of reply following an earlier interview granted to former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The political exchange followed comments by Kwankwaso, who reportedly suggested that the current Kano State Governor would regret leaving his political camp to join the APC.

In response, Sunusi Bature used the platform to defend the governor’s political decision and also address broader issues around party loyalty, defections, and internal political dynamics in Kano and beyond.

Decisive Leadership Was Necessary

Sunusi Bature said political leadership sometimes demands difficult but necessary decisions, insisting that the governor acted based on strategic considerations.

He explained that while errors in judgment may be forgiven in politics, failure to take firm and timely decisions often carries long-term consequences.

According to him, the governor’s move into the APC was a calculated decision aimed at strengthening governance and political alignment in the state.

He maintained that the outcome of that decision is already becoming visible in terms of coordination within the party structure.

Reaction to Kwankwaso’s Defection Narrative

The spokesperson also addressed Kwankwaso’s long-standing criticism of political defections, arguing that such criticism has been inconsistent.

He pointed out that Kwankwaso himself had moved from the NNPP to the ADC, then to NDC saying this raises questions about political consistency and messaging.

Sunusi suggested that political actors must be cautious in condemning actions they themselves have engaged in, describing it as a contradiction in public narrative.

Allegations of Factional Engagement in ADC

Sunusi Bature further commented on Kwankwaso’s brief involvement in the ADC, claiming that his time in the party coincided with internal disagreements and factional tensions.

He alleged that Kwankwaso engaged with different blocs within the party, including interactions associated with the David Mark-led faction and simultaneous engagement with individuals aligned with Na’fiu Bala.

He claimed that such parallel engagements contributed to confusion and disunity within the party structure during that period

Multiple Party Movements Raise Questions

According to Sunusi, Kwankwaso’s movement across several political platforms within a short period reflects what he described as an unstable political pattern.

He alleged that within a relatively short span, Kwankwaso had participated in or aligned with multiple political formations, suggesting that this behavior indicates strategic positioning rather than long-term party commitment.

He further argued that such political mobility often leaves behind leadership disputes and factional struggles in affected parties.

APC in Kano: United and Election-Ready

Sunusi Bature insisted that despite opposition narratives and political debates, APC in Kano remains united and focused.

He said internal structures within the party have been strengthened, with leaders and members working in coordination toward future electoral contests.

He added that the party’s current cohesion is a key factor that will enhance its performance in upcoming elections, stressing that APC is not distracted by external political commentary.

The remarks by the governor’s spokesperson come amid ongoing political realignments and public exchanges between major political actors in Kano and the wider opposition landscape.

Sunusi maintained that APC’s strength in Kano lies in its unity and clarity of purpose, describing the party as “ready for the political tasks ahead.”
