The Kano State Censorship Board has taken decisive action against a traditional medicine seller accused of using a minor in inappropriate and sexually suggestive advertising.

The Board has ordered the immediate closure of the shop belonging to a popular traditional medicine seller, Nagwale, following allegations of involving a minor in the promotion of “manpower” medicine in public spaces.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, Nagwale has also been summoned by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, to respond to the allegations.

Stallion Times reports that the Kano State chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has strongly condemned the exploitation of minors by a man identified as Nagwale, who operates around Zoo Road near Massallacin Murtala in Kano State.

FIDA cited clear violations of child protection laws, including prohibitions against child labour, street hawking by minors, and exposing children to indecent or sexually suggestive environments.

Speaking on the development, the Director of Publications at the Censorship Board, Abubakar Zakari Garun Babba, stated that the sale and public advertisement of such medicines, particularly when involving minors or indecent content, is strictly prohibited and attracts severe sanctions under the law.

He further disclosed that the suspect has admitted wrongdoing and has apologized to the people of Kano State.

As part of the Board’s disciplinary procedure, Nagwale has been directed to issue formal apologies in written, audio, and video formats, which will be documented for future reference.

The Board emphasized that existing laws empower it to regulate and monitor the activities of traditional medicine practitioners, especially in the area of advertisement, to ensure compliance with ethical and legal standards.

The Censorship Board reiterates its commitment to protecting public morality and safeguarding minors from exploitation.
