The Egyptian Ministry of Transport announced new price increases for transport services. The new metro and train ticket prices in Egypt took effect on Friday morning.

This plan aims primarily to face rising operational costs.

Moreover, the ministry seeks to improve service levels for citizens across all lines. Reports indicated that the increase covered specific categories while others remained fixed.

Accordingly, partial adjustments occurred in metro ticket prices for short trips.

The metro ticket price for up to 9 stations rose to 10 EGP. Also, the 16-station ticket increased to 12 EGP instead of 10 EGP. In addition, ticket prices for long trips exceeding 23 stations remained unchanged.

Regarding railways, long-distance tickets increased by 12.5%. Therefore, short-line prices rose by 25% to cover increasing operational costs.

This price movement aims to ensure the sustainability of service efficiency nationwide.

The ministry attributed this decision to rising fuel and electricity prices globally and locally. On the other hand, financial burdens related to infrastructure maintenance have increased.

Also, rising employee wages put additional pressure on transport authorities’ budgets.

However, the ministry invited students and employees to benefit from the subscription system. These subscriptions offer significant discounts on metro and train ticket prices in Egypt.

Consequently, citizens can effectively reduce daily transport costs.

In conclusion, the state affirms continued investment in the transport and communications sector. New projects aim to link governorates and facilitate the movement of trade and passengers.

Thus, facility development remains dependent on achieving a balance between cost and service quality.
