The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has presented cheques of over N2.43 billion to 1,075 beneficiaries and next-of-kins of deceased police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the presentation ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, covered multiple policy years, including 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023, and 2024/2025, and 2025/2026.

The total sum disbursed stood at N2,435,421,584.11, including outstanding insurance claims recovered from previous years.

Speaking at the event, the Force Insurance Officer, ACP Lydia Ameh, said the disbursement underscores the commitment of the IGP to prioritizing the welfare of officers and their families.

She explained that the payments represent recoveries from long-standing insurance obligations and noted that measures have been put in place to ensure compliance by insurance providers and prevent delays in claims settlement.

Ameh reaffirmed the dedication of the Force Insurance Unit to delivering efficient, transparent, and accountable services in handling welfare-related matters.

In his remarks, IGP Disu described the occasion as a solemn acknowledgement of the sacrifices made by officers who died in the line of duty.

He stressed that the initiative goes beyond financial assistance, serving as a demonstration of the Force’s enduring responsibility to honour fallen personnel and support their families.

He assured that efforts would be intensified to strengthen welfare frameworks, improve administrative processes, and eliminate delays in the disbursement of benefits.

The IGP added that the Force would leverage modern technology to enhance transparency, streamline claims processing, and ensure accountability.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to the welfare of serving personnel and the families of deceased officers, noting that their sacrifices remain vital to the nation’s peace, security, and stability.
