Police Arrest Four Suspected Drug Peddlers, Recover Cannabis in Kano

In line with the directives and guidance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on sustained intelligence-led visibility patrols, the Kano State Police Command has recorded significant successes in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse across the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that Police operatives, in a series of coordinated operations, arrested four suspects and recovered quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

According to the statement, on 25 January 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., officers attached to the Fagge Police Division, while on an intelligence-led surveillance patrol at Triumph Roundabout, intercepted a tricycle conveying two suspected sacks.

A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.

Two suspects, identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both male and residents of Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State, were arrested in connection with the seizure.

In a related development, on 24 January 2026, at about 5:25 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT), acting under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, carried out raids on identified black spots within the Kano Metropolitan Area.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Usman Hamisu, 22, and Auwal Abdullahi, 25.

Items recovered from the suspects included 40 pieces of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, 20 pieces of rubber solutions, half a roll of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, and 10 small bottles of a substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved in the successful operations for their professionalism and dedication.

The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse, assuring the public of its resolve to maintain peace and ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents of the state.
