The attention of the Kano Patriotic Civil Society Coalition Forum (KPCF) has been drawn to a public disclaimer issued by Magnificent Law Firm on behalf of Mr. Mohammed Bello and the African Centre for Innovative Research and Development, alleging false attribution and unauthorized listing among the endorsers of the coalition’s rejoinder titled:
“Kano CSOs Fault Daily Trust Report, Describe ‘New Bandits Frontier’ Headline as Misleading.”

We wish to state, clearly and unambiguously, as follows:

1. No Deliberate Misrepresentation Occurred

The coalition circulated the draft rejoinder widely among civil society organisations through established communication platforms. All organisations were given adequate notice and the opportunity to confirm or decline participation before publication.

At no time did the coalition engage in falsification, coercion, or misrepresentation of any organisation or individual.

2. Open Channel Was Provided for Opt-Out

The coalition expressly requested that any organisation unwilling to be part of the rejoinder should indicate for removal from the signatory list. This process was transparent, inclusive, and consistent with standard civil society communication protocols.

If any internal communication within an organisation failed to reach the appropriate officer, such an oversight cannot be attributed to bad faith or fraudulent conduct on the part of the coalition.

3. The Allegations of “Deliberate Misrepresentation” and “Reputational Damage” Are Unfounded

The rejoinder was issued strictly to correct a misleading media publication capable of generating fear among citizens and investors in Kano State.
It was not designed to harm, diminish, or misrepresent any civil society organisation.

We therefore reject, in strong terms, the allegations of fraudulent intent or reputational injury contained in the disclaimer.

4. Demand for Clarification Is Already Addressed

The coalition hereby formally acknowledges that Mr. Mohammed Bello and the African Centre for Innovative Research and Development do not wish to be listed as endorsers of the rejoinder.

Their names have been immediately and permanently removed from the updated signatory list.

5. Threats of Legal Action Are Unnecessary and Misplaced

As a responsible civil society coalition, we remain committed to dialogue and peaceful resolution of misunderstandings within the civic space.
The threats of civil or criminal proceedings and claims of ₦10,000,000,000 (Ten Billion Naira) are therefore unwarranted and disproportionate, given that:

  • no malicious intent existed,
  • no injury was caused, and
  • the matter could be resolved through simple communication.

6. Commitment to Transparency and Cooperation

KPCF maintains a strong tradition of professional conduct, public accountability, and collaboration with all legitimate organisations.
We encourage all stakeholders to verify internal processes before issuing public statements capable of creating unnecessary tensions within the civil society community.

Conclusion

The Kano Patriotic Civil Society Coalition Forum remains committed to safeguarding the credibility of civil society engagements in Kano State.

We consider this matter resolved following the removal of the concerned organisation’s name and reaffirm our commitment to constructive engagement and mutual respect.

Signed:

Hassan Ibrahim Gama – Convener

Mustapha Muhammed Chiroma – Co-Convener
