The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, has flagged off the construction of a major network of roads in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State, aimed at boosting economic activities and improving accessibility for residents.
The project covers the construction of the Obada–Iso Epo Road, which will pass through key communities including Jolaiya, Oke-Ada, and Ori-Eru, linking up with the central Sabo Road in Ikire.
Representing the senator at the event, the Osun State Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Ademola Adeyemo, reaffirmed Senator Oyewumi’s commitment to delivering impactful infrastructural projects that will improve the lives of constituents.
He noted that the project goes beyond mere construction works, describing it as “a vehicle for economic empowerment and community integration.”
Also speaking, Hon. Wale Olunloye said the road project was a direct response to the needs of the people and aligns with the senator’s agenda of modernizing infrastructure across the constituency. He added that improved road networks are vital to driving social and economic development.
The symbolic flag-off ceremony was performed by Chief Falana, who represented the Akire of Ikireland, Oba Olatunde Falabi, giving royal endorsement to the initiative.
The monarch’s representative highlighted the strategic importance of the project, saying it would reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, and unlock the commercial potential of surrounding communities.
Community leaders and residents expressed appreciation for the senator’s intervention, describing the project as a long-awaited relief that would ease movement and open up the local economy.
When completed, the Obada–Iso Epo–Sabo Road is expected to significantly enhance mobility, stimulate trade, and contribute to the overall prosperity of Ikire and its environs.
