The Kano State Government has announced plans to acquire majority shares in the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) as part of efforts to boost power supply, drive industrial growth, and expand access to reliable electricity across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
He said the move aims to strengthen the state’s role in power generation, transmission, and distribution to enhance efficiency, transparency, and service delivery in the energy sector.
“The initiative is expected to stimulate economic activities, create employment opportunities, and attract both local and foreign investments,” the statement added.
The government also approved the presentation and adoption of the Kano State Electricity Policy, under the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, which provides a roadmap for sustainable energy development.
According to the statement, the policy prioritizes renewable energy integration, improved efficiency, and energy access for all sectors.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making Kano an energy-secure and business-friendly state that promotes innovation, industrialization, and inclusive economic growth.
