Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to e-governance and digital transformation in public service, with the introduction of a fully computerized recruitment process for the State Civil Service.

During an inspection visit to the newly established Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre at the Idongesit Nkanta Secretariat on Friday, Governor Eno confirmed the readiness of the facility, which can accommodate up to 2,000 candidates daily for the digitized aptitude test.

Governor Eno explained that the adoption of CBT technology in the recruitment process is part of a broader plan to entrench transparency, efficiency, and meritocracy in the state’s public sector while curbing favoritism and political interference

“The Civil Service is the engine room of governance. The quality of people we bring into the service in this 21st century matters.

“The world has even moved to AI now, so we need people who understand basic computing to the extent that they can take an exam,” he said.

“This system will eliminate godfatherism. People should have confidence that they got into the service purely by merit. We’re in the digital age, and that’s the way it should be.”

Accompanying the Governor, the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, praised the initiative, describing it as a landmark step toward institutionalizing e-governance in Akwa Ibom.

He added that prospective candidates would have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the system before the test commences in ten days.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpenyong, assured that the CBT Centre is fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support Governor Eno’s vision of a technology-driven public service.

He noted that the digital system will promote fairness, speed, and accountability in recruitment processes.

Governor Eno’s initiative underscores his administration’s commitment to modernizing governance through technology, aligning with the ARISE Agenda’s focus on innovation, transparency, and inclusive growth.
