The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the resumption of passenger train operations on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, following a suspension of several weeks.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the corporation said all necessary safety, technical, and operational checks had been completed, underscoring its commitment to providing smooth, reliable, and secure services for travelers.

The NRC also designated Wednesdays as routine maintenance days for the Abuja–Kaduna Train Service.

“The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of Nigerians, especially passengers, during the suspension period.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to deliver safe, affordable, and efficient rail transportation that supports national connectivity and economic growth,” the statement read.

The suspension followed a derailment on August 26, the second in just over a year at the same station.

An investigation by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) revealed that defective infrastructure and lapses in safety management contributed to the incident.

NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed that services would recommence only after the corporation was satisfied that all required checks had been carried out.
