The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two suspects and recovered 112 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa following a road accident along the Zaria–Kano Road.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Sadiq Maigatari, the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, near Tamburawa Bridge. NDLEA patrol officers, who rushed to the scene of a collision between a Volkswagen Golf and a truck, discovered the drug consignment hidden inside the Golf.
He explained that officers broke the car’s windscreen and forced open its doors to rescue the occupants. “During the rescue, the passengers attempted to escape but were swiftly apprehended,” Maigatari said.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis weighing 112kg. Upon interrogation, the driver confessed to working for a drug consignor and admitted to previous deliveries within and outside Kano.
Maigatari added that the driver of the Golf is receiving medical treatment and assisting with investigations, while the truck driver sustained fractures in the crash.
Commending the professionalism of the officers, the state commander, A.I. Ahmad, reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to clamp down on drug trafficking and urged residents to report suspicious drug-related activities.
