Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has officially launched the construction of a 400-unit housing estate for civil servants, describing the project as a landmark in his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and sustainable development.

According to a statement on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Gyang Bere, the initiative forms part of a larger 2,000-unit workers’ housing scheme being implemented across the state.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Zanwra, Nkie Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area, Mutfwang said the estate represents more than physical structures, but “the foundation of hope, dignity, and stability for our hardworking and dedicated workforce.”

Governor Mutfwang highlighted his administration’s reforms to restore trust and dignity in the civil service, including clearing salary arrears, settling decades-old pension and gratuity backlogs, paying death benefits, increasing pensions by up to 100%, and approving the N70,000 minimum wage for Plateau workers.

He disclosed that 38.299 hectares of land had been fully acquired for N346.5 million to ensure the smooth execution of the project. “Housing is not a privilege; it is a right.

With this project, we are not just building houses; we are creating homes, communities, and enduring legacies,” he said, pledging to replicate similar developments across the state.

Plateau NLC Chairman, Comrade Eugene Manji, praised the government for reviving the workers’ housing scheme and fully paying for the land, while Head of Service, Mr. Stephen Pam Godong, assured a fair and transparent allocation process.

Engr. Christopher Nathaniel of DSK Group of Companies, representing the developers, promised world-class standards with solar power, boreholes, schools, clinics, community centers, and recreational spaces. He noted the project would generate over 3,000 jobs and boost the state’s construction sector.

The event also featured goodwill messages from TUC Chairman Kenneth Shamma and HRH Ronku Aka, the Bra Ngwe Irigwe, who commended the governor’s developmental strides. The ceremony climaxed with Governor Mutfwang laying the foundation stone, marking a major step toward tackling Plateau’s housing deficit for civil servants.
