The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election in Kano State, defeating the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Announcing the results on Sunday, Returning Officer Prof. Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University declared APC’s Garba Gwarmai winner with 31,472 votes, while NNPP’s Yusuf Maigado polled 27,931 votes.
Prof. Waziri explained that the rerun was conducted after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the initial election inconclusive, covering polling units where voting was either cancelled or not held.
“With a margin of 3,541 votes, Garba Gwarmai of the APC is hereby returned elected,” Waziri said.
The outcome sparked celebrations among APC supporters, who hailed it as evidence of the party’s influence in Kano. However, NNPP members expressed dissatisfaction and indicated plans to review the result before deciding on their next step.
INEC described the election as peaceful, noting that security agencies were on ground to maintain order and ensure a smooth process.
The Ghari/Tsanyawa rerun was one of several supplementary elections conducted nationwide to conclude contests earlier declared inconclusive.
