Two separate fire incidents were recorded at an Access Bank branch in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, and a residential building in Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday.
The Kano State Fire Service said firefighters successfully contained both incidents and prevented further damage.
According to the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the first incident occurred at about 1:17 p.m. after the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from a man identified as Michael.
Firefighters from the Dawanau Fire Station responded to the scene and found a one-storey building housing the Access Bank branch engulfed in flames.
According to the statement, one Mikano generator was completely affected, while an electrical transformer was slightly damaged.
The firefighters quickly contained the blaze and prevented it from spreading to other parts of the building.
The second incident occurred at about 6:19 p.m. at Sabuwar Gandu, Sheka Gari, where firefighters from the Sharada Industrial Area Fire Station responded to a distress call.
The fire affected two bedrooms, a parlour, and a kitchen in a residential building measuring approximately 40 by 30 feet.
The firefighters brought the situation under control using one jet from the Sharada Fire Truck, supported by two additional jets from nearby factories.
The causes of both fires are currently under investigation.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks.
He also advised residents to equip their homes with functional fire extinguishers and observe necessary fire-safety precautions.
