The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the polling unit of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, during the Garki-Babura federal constituency by-election in Jigawa State.

At Unit 001, Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, where the minister—an APC stalwart and immediate past governor of the state—cast his ballot, PDP secured 308 votes against APC’s 112.

Badaru voted under heavy security and left without speaking to journalists.

The by-election, which took place across Babura and Garki LGAs, was conducted under tight security, with operatives of the Police, Civil Defence, Immigration and other agencies deployed to maintain order.

Polling Officer Ibrahim Shehu confirmed that voting at the minister’s unit was peaceful and hitch-free.

Meanwhile, at Primary Yamma (Unit 005), the Minister of State for Education, Mrs Suwaiba Ahmad, lauded the orderly conduct of the exercise and expressed confidence in APC’s chances.

The election witnessed a relatively high voter turnout, while business activities continued in parts of the constituency.
