The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 49 male suspects in a sweeping two-day crackdown on drug-related activities across the state.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the operation was carried out on August 7 and 8, 2025, targeting hotspots notorious for illicit drug sales and abuse.

Recovered items include large quantities of cannabis sativa, Pregabalin, diazepam, codeine syrup, Rohypnol, “Suck and die,” rubber solution, as well as locally made weapons.

The statement noted that the operation focused on areas such as Massallacin Idi, Fagge Plaza, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai, Kofar Dan’agundi, Makabartar Dan’agundi, Ladanai, Zage, and Tashar Rimi at Rimi Market. It also extended to Kano Line Motor Park and Tashar Rami Motor Park in Na’ibawa, where over 15 suspects were picked up.

“These actions are part of the Command’s initiative to dismantle drug joints and disrupt the networks of known drug dealers operating within the state,” Maigatari said.

He added that since the NDLEA’s upgrade to a strategic command, there had been a marked improvement in operations.

“Under the leadership of ACGN A.I. Ahmad, the Command is committed to intensifying operations to ensure that those involved in drug trafficking are brought to justice,” he stated.

The statement also conveyed appreciation to the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), for what it described as “unwavering support and visionary leadership” in the fight against illicit drugs.

“His commitment to a drug-free society empowers our team to pursue our mission with renewed vigor,” Maigatari said.

He warned those involved in drug abuse and trafficking to desist, stressing that the agency would not relent in its drive for a drug-free Kano.

“We urge individuals engaged in these illegal activities to reconsider their choices, as we will not relent in our pursuit of a drug-free society,” the statement warned.
