The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is fully prepared for the by-election in Dekina-Okura Constituency, Kogi State, scheduled for Saturday.

The poll will fill the seat left vacant by the death of former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Enema Paul, on December 14, 2024, after a long illness.

Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Oliver Agundu, represented by INEC Education Officer, Mr. Haruna Haliru, noted that all security and logistical measures had been put in place.

He said the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) had met to plan the protection of election personnel and materials before, during, and after voting.

“All non-sensitive materials have been moved to the local government, while sensitive materials are expected to arrive between Wednesday and Thursday,” he stated.

According to Agundu, training for supervisory presiding officers, presiding officers, and assistant presiding officers has been completed in preparation for the exercise.

Five political parties — Accord, African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — will field candidates in the election.

He assured stakeholders of a credible, transparent, and peaceful process, urging voters to turn out en masse and conduct themselves in an orderly manner at the polls.
