Everton have agreed a season-long loan deal for Manchester City winger Jack Grealish, with the England international set to undergo a medical in the coming days.
The 29-year-old, who joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then-British record fee of £100 million, has struggled for regular playing time in recent seasons.
He was left out of the squad for City’s final Premier League match at Fulham last term and omitted from the Club World Cup squad in the United States.
Grealish has made over 150 appearances for City, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
However, injuries and fierce competition for places have seen his role diminish. He made only seven league starts last season—his fewest since he was 20—and ended the campaign with more yellow cards (seven) than combined goals and assists (six).
Once a key figure in City’s historic Treble-winning season of 2022–23, starting all seven Champions League knockout ties, Grealish has since seen his minutes drop to just 30% of City’s total last term.
Pep Guardiola often favoured the more direct Jeremy Doku on the left flank, leaving Grealish on the bench for key matches, including the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.
Everton’s new manager David Moyes sees Grealish as a marquee signing ahead of the club’s first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
While the move does not offer European football, it provides Grealish with the opportunity to revive his career and become a central figure in the Toffees’ attack.
The winger also hopes the switch will help him reclaim his place in England’s squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. He was left “heartbroken” after missing out on Euro 2024, a setback that friends say deeply affected his confidence.
Grealish, who made his name as a talismanic captain at Aston Villa, will now look to rediscover the creativity and freedom that once defined his game.
With Everton seeking a strong start to the season, the stage is set for him to prove he can still be a decisive force at the highest level.
