Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has appointed Bright Ozebagbe and Deniran Ortega as his assistant coaches for the Nigerian Olympic team, the Olympic Eagles.
The appointment was disclosed on Tuesday by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Chelle, who also doubles as head coach of the Olympic Eagles, described Ozebagbe and Ortega as two of Nigeria’s brightest young coaches, saying he was delighted to have them as part of his technical crew.
Ozebagbe is the Technical Adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League side Ikorodu City, who narrowly missed out on a continental ticket on the final day of last season.
Ortega, meanwhile, is a UEFA-licensed coach trained by the Scottish Football Association and currently serves as one of the assistant coaches of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles.
The appointment comes as Chelle intensifies preparations for Nigeria’s bid to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The coach has already briefed the NSC leadership on his plans and preparations and is expected to open a training camp in Abuja soon ahead of the Olympic qualifiers scheduled for November 2026.
The NSC, which supervises both Nigeria’s male and female Olympic football teams, has expressed its determination not only to secure qualification but also to guide the teams towards podium finishes in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Chelle has dismissed questions over an alleged bonus row involving the Super Eagles, insisting that his focus remains firmly on the team’s preparations and performance on the pitch, particularly ahead of their crucial encounter against Algeria.
