Nasarawa United technical adviser, Mbwas Mangut, says his side will continue to improve as the EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season progresses.
The Solid Miners recorded their first victory of the campaign on Sunday, edging Bendel Insurance 1-0 in a Matchday Two encounter at the Lafia City Stadium.
Sam Pam scored the decisive goal 10 minutes into the second half to secure all three points for the home side.
The victory provided a much-needed response from Nasarawa United following their disappointing 3-1 defeat to Barau FC in their opening fixture of the season.
Mangut acknowledged the difficult nature of the encounter against Bendel Insurance but expressed satisfaction with the gradual improvement of his players.
“It was a difficult game for us. It’s only our second game of the season, and I can boldly say that we are improving game by game,” Mangut told the club’s media.
He said some of his players were under pressure to impress the fans, which affected their ability to follow tactical instructions and resulted in avoidable mistakes.
“Somehow, my players seemed to want to please the fans instead of circulating the ball and playing according to our instructions, which exposed us to some mistakes,” he said.
Mangut, however, expressed optimism that the team would become stronger as the season progresses, stressing that the squad combines experienced players with youthful talents.
“However, we are still a very fresh team, blending experience with youthfulness, and I know we will get better as the campaign progresses,” he added.
The coach said the team would intensify its preparations ahead of their next fixture against Rangers International FC in Abeokuta, with the aim of securing another positive result.
“The league is still fresh, and we are going to work harder and smarter as we prepare for our next game against Rangers International FC in Abeokuta. We are hoping to get a decent result there,” Mangut said.
