Unchained Vibes Africa (UVA) a cultural organization and social enterprise, committed to developing arts and culture projects geared towards social causes has revealed that the rate at which the freedom of artists across the entertainment sector is being abused is alarming hence the need to provide the sector with all the desired freedom to operate within the realm of the law.

The Executive Director and founder of UVA, Mr. Ayo Ganiyu, disclosed during a stakeholder’s forum meeting held in Kano on the issue of artists’ freedom.

Mr Ayo said the mission of UVA is to leverage the power of the arts to promote civic education, good governance, human rights, cultural diversity, and the spirit of solidarity in Africa.

He explained that the rationale behind holding the meeting in Kana is to gather practitioners, regulatory bodies, and other relevant stakeholders in the entertainment sector to dialogue on possible harmonious working relationships within the sector.

“It is unfortunate that Mano state records the highest case of artist’s freedom deprivation. We believe there is something wrong somewhere. That is why we feel there is a need to get all the stakeholders together to fashion a way out,” he said.

While addressing participants during the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Censorship Board, Abba Almustapha stated that there is a need for artists in the state to understand that there are laws enacted to guide the conduct of their activities.

According to him, though the censorship board’s law enacted in 2001 is undergoing a review, the board wouldn’t relent in protecting the norms and values of the state.
