Kano State Government has issued a firm directive mandating strict adherence to all traffic regulations across the state, reinforcing its commitment to urban renewal and public safety.

The directive was announced in a statement released on Sunday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, the renewed enforcement drive follows the government’s massive investments, amounting to billions of naira, towards beautifying and modernizing Kano in line with global urban development standards.

These investments include the installation of modern street lighting, road signage, and upgraded traffic infrastructure, all aimed at improving night-time visibility, reducing road accidents, and fostering a culture of discipline and order on the state’s roads.

Despite these advancements, the government expressed serious concern over the growing disregard for traffic laws by motorists and residents, particularly the frequent violations of traffic signals and other newly installed safety infrastructure.

In response, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to immediately launch comprehensive enforcement operations to ensure full compliance with all traffic laws, especially adherence to traffic lights within the metropolis.

The statement emphasized that only emergency vehicles such as fire trucks, ambulances, and security service vehicles on official duty are exempt from these rules during emergency responses.

All other road users are expected to obey traffic laws without exception.

Furthermore, the government warned that any individual or group found undermining its urban renewal initiatives or flouting traffic laws will face strict legal consequences.

The administration also cautioned that any public official attempting to influence or obstruct traffic enforcement operations will be reported to the appropriate authorities and treated as sabotaging the government’s development efforts.

This decisive action, the statement concluded, highlights the Yusuf administration’s unwavering commitment to building a safe, modern, and livable mega city for all residents of Kano.
