Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to promoting gender inclusion and empowering women in governance.

He made this known while receiving a delegation from the “Reserved Seat for Women” Movement, who paid him an advocacy visit at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kano.

Comrade Waiya warmly welcomed the delegation and commended their efforts in advocating for increased political representation for women.

He expressed both personal and institutional support for the initiative, noting that he had championed similar causes during his time as a civil society activist.

The Commissioner further highlighted the commitment of the Kwankwasiyya-led administration under of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to gender inclusion.

He cited recent appointments of women into key and sensitive positions in government as a clear demonstration of the administration’s resolve to ensure women play active roles in leadership and decision-making processes.

He assured the delegation that the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs would continue to collaborate with stakeholders and support initiatives that promote equity, inclusiveness, and broad-based representation in the democratic process.

Earlier, while speaking on behalf of the delegation, Ambassador Zainab Suleiman Umar, the North-West Coordinator of the Movement, passionately appealed to the Commissioner to lend his voice and influence in support of the group’s advocacy.

She explained that the “Reserved Seat for Women” Movement comprises women from various civil society organizations who are united in their mission to enhance women’s political participation through the reservation of seats for women in both the State and National Assemblies, as well as other leadership positions.

She emphasized the importance of structural reforms to ensure that women are not just participants but are well-represented at all levels of governance, adding that their visit to the Ministry was part of a wider campaign to rally key stakeholders and decision-makers behind the movement’s goals.

Ambassador Zainab, who led the team, was accompanied by other key coordinators, including Hajiya Alsha Haruna Kabuga (Kano Coordinator), Hajiya Aisha Iliyasu Surko (Jigawa Coordinator), Honourable Shafaatu Salihu Labbo (Zamfara Coordinator), and representatives from Kaduna State.

The visit concluded with a renewed sense of partnership and shared commitment to advancing the role of women in politics and leadership across Kano State and beyond.
