Kogi State Government has launched a large-scale training program for 2,310 youths in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion technology, aimed at equipping them with modern energy skills aligned with Nigeria’s shift towards cleaner fuel alternatives.
The initiative, in collaboration with private sector partner Sufpay Ltd., draws participants from all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Training centres have been established in Lokoja, Okene, Idah, and Kabba to allow participants to learn within their local communities.
Speaking at the launch of the program, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the initiative as a strategic step toward preparing Kogi for the emerging energy future.
“This initiative is about building a new generation of skilled professionals capable of thriving in the growing energy sector.
“CNG represents the future, and we are proud to prepare our youths for it.”
He noted that beyond economic benefits, the program is also designed to reduce insecurity by engaging young people in productive, skill-based activities.
“Our governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has consistently prioritized youth empowerment. This program is a direct reflection of that commitment.
“Our youth are our greatest asset, and we are centring development around them,” Fanwo added.
Fanwo also commended Sufpay Ltd. for its technical support and commitment to the success of the program.
The training aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to transition from petrol to cleaner, alternative fuels, while also addressing youth unemployment through targeted technical education.
