NDLEA Decorates Waiya, Kofar-Mata with Anti-drug Abuse Awards

… As taskforce visits Emir Sanusi, Council of Ulama, stakeholders

The Kano State Taskforce on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has intensified its consultations with relevant stakeholders across the state.

As part of its engagements, the committee paid courtesy visits to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Council of Ulama, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to seek collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and youth rehabilitation.

Speaking during the visits, the Chairman of the Taskforce, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, who also serves as the Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, stated that the committee’s mission is to identify areas of collaboration with critical stakeholders in addressing drug abuse and rehabilitating affected youths.

On his part, the Kano State Commander of the NDLEA, Alhaji Abubakar Idris Ahmad, emphasized that the agency’s mandate aligns with the objectives of the task force.

He assured the committee of the NDLEA’s full support in achieving its goals. In recognition of their commitment and contributions to the fight against drug abuse and other social vices among youths, the NDLEA decorated Commissioners Yusuf Kofar-Mata and Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya as Anti-Drug Abuse Ambassadors.

At the Emir’s Palace, Dr. Kofar Mata informed His Highness, Emir Sanusi, that the committee comprises representatives from all security agencies in the state. He further explained that the visit aimed to seek royal blessings and guidance in their efforts.

In his response, Emir Sanusi commended the state government for initiating the task force and assured the committee of the Emirate’s full support in achieving its objectives.

During their engagement with the Council of Ulama, the task force urged religious scholars to amplify the campaign against drug abuse by incorporating sensitization messages into their Ramadan Tafsir sessions and Friday sermons.

The committee emphasized the role of parents and community leaders in safeguarding youths from social vices.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, revealed that the Safe Corridor group, which had been working on similar interventions, would be merged into the task force.

He reiterated the committee’s commitment to adopting a non-kinetic approach to ensuring that Kano becomes a safer and more secure place for all.
