Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has distributed over 450 bags of 25kg rice to various journalist associations within the state.

This initiative underscores the governor’s recognition of the pivotal role that journalists play in societal development and his commitment to their welfare during this significant period.

The event took place on Saturday at the Kano Press Centre under the leadership of the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, and the Kano Commissioner of Information, Comrade Abdullahi Wayya.

The beneficiaries include esteemed bodies such as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), and the Forum of Media House Managers, among others.

This distribution aims to alleviate the challenges faced by media professionals during Ramadan, enabling them to continue their essential duties with greater ease.

By extending this gesture to the media community, Governor Yusuf not only acknowledges their unwavering dedication to informing and educating the public but also fosters a harmonious relationship between the government and the media.

This act of generosity serves as a testament to the administration’s inclusive approach and its recognition of the media’s indispensable role in promoting transparency, accountability, and societal well-being.

In his remark the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, expressed his delight over the gesture, stating that it is the first of its kind.

“This is the first time such a gesture has been extended to all categories of media in the state.” He said.

He thanked Governor Yusuf for recognizing and assisting journalists.

It could be recalled that the Governor has affirmed his commitment to supporting the welfare of media practitioners during the signing of the 2025 appropriation bill.
