Zamfara University Achieves Full Accreditation for All 28 Academic Programs

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full and interim accreditation to all 28 academic programs offered by Zamfara State University, Talata-Mafara.

The accreditation exercise was conducted from the 16th to the 26th of February, 2025, as part of the NUC’s nationwide assessment of academic programs in Nigerian universities.

This outstanding achievement was formally announced on Saturday by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Yahya A. Zakari, in a statement made available to journalists in Sokoto.

He revealed that out of the 28 programs submitted for evaluation, 20 received full accreditation with excellent scores, while the remaining eight secured interim accreditation status.

The Vice Chancellor, speaking on behalf of the University’s Management and Senate, expressed immense pride and gratitude, describing the results as a “testament to the institution’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the provision of quality education.”

Among the programmes granted full accreditation are core disciplines such as BNSc. Nursing Science, BSc. Public Health, BSc. Physiotherapy, BSc. Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and BSc. Computer Science.

Others are BSc. Biology, BSc. Geology, BSc. Mass Communication, BSc. Economics, and BSc. Electronics.

Humanities and education programs also performed exceptionally well, with BA History and International Studies, BA English, BA Islamic Studies, and BEd. Primary Education and B.Ed. Early Childhood Education is receiving commendable accreditation statuses.

These results affirm the university’s broad-based academic strength and institutional readiness.

The university’s Management has extended its heartfelt appreciation to the Government of Zamfara State for its steadfast support. The availability of critical resources and funding has been pivotal in positioning the institution for this remarkable achievement.

Special thanks were directed at His Excellency, Governor Dauda Lawal, whose proactive engagement and commitment to the development of the state university have significantly contributed to its recent success.

The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the governor’s support played a key role in meeting the stringent requirements set by the NUC.

Furthermore, the Management lauded the collective efforts of the university community. Faculty members, administrative staff, and students were all recognized for their invaluable contributions, dedication, and collaborative spirit throughout the rigorous accreditation process.

“This success story is the outcome of teamwork, resilience, and an enduring pursuit of excellence,” Professor Zakari remarked.

He stressed that such an accomplishment reflects the university’s readiness to evolve into a center of academic distinction, both nationally and internationally.

The accreditation milestone marks a turning point for Zamfara State University, boosting its credibility, increasing student confidence, and positioning it for future academic partnerships and research opportunities.

It also underscores the university’s alignment with the NUC’s benchmark academic standards, ensuring that students graduate with qualifications recognized within and beyond Nigeria.
