Taraba State Government has disbursed over N1.8 billion to major examination bodies to support the registration of students for external examinations, reaffirming its commitment to improving access to education across the state.
The cheques were presented on Monday at the National Examinations Council (NECO) office in Jalingo by the Commissioner for Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education, Augustina Godwin, on behalf of Governor Agbu Kefas.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Godwin said the intervention was designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians while ensuring that eligible students in public schools sit for external examinations without obstacles.
According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Jalingo, the state government approved N1,613,646,250 for the National Examinations Council (NECO), N196,822,190 for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), and N53,865,000 for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
Jalingo noted that the gesture reflects the commitment of the Governor Kefas administration to strengthening the education sector and expanding opportunities for students to succeed academically under the state’s free and compulsory education policy.
She added that education remains a top priority of the administration, stressing that the government would continue to implement programs and policies aimed at promoting quality learning and improving the prospects of children in Taraba State.
Representatives of the examination bodies commended the state government for the intervention, describing it as timely and beneficial to students across the state.
The event was attended by government officials, education stakeholders, school administrators, and representatives of the examination bodies.
