The committee to reposition and restructure departments and certain sectors of primary education in Sokoto state has submitted its report to the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Education Board (SUBEB), Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, saying that, the Board under his watchful eyes would not condone act of laxity from staff who abdicate from their assigned responsibilities.
The committee was constituted to restructure and modernize all departments in tune with new trends to enhance service delivery.
Some recommendations as contained in the committee’s report include the establishment of an ICT Centre, Teachers’ Professional Development Unit, Planning, and Research as well as Procurement Units.
Others are the Training and Retraining of teaching personnel and their prompt promotions.
Members of the committee include State Coordinator UBEC, Abdulkadir Umar as its chairman and the Chairman of Governing Council Federal College of Education, Tangaza, Dr. Abdullahi Magaho as the Secretary, former Director Quality Assurance of the Board, Abdullahi Muhammad Gobir, Permanent Members 2 and 3, Abdulkadir N. Gada and Alh Garba Sarki a seasoned educationist.
The Executive Chairman has assured of doing everything possible to see that teachers’ Welfare is significantly improved.
He appreciates the establishment of LEARN to READ Program initiatives geared towards reviving teaching and learning in the state.
Turning to the UBEC – SUBEB Smart Model School, Sokoto, the chairman noted that efforts are being intensified to ensure its formal takeup for the commencement of academic activities.
According to him, the Ahmad Aliyu-led administration in the state is committed to the development of education at all levels as such hence the need to complement his efforts in all ramifications.
The State Coordinator of UBEC and the Committee Chairman, Alh Abdulkadir Umar thanked the SUBEB and assured of sustaining their support to the SUBEB in attaining the desired objectives of education.
Those in attendance during the event include the Secretary of the SUBEB, Mahmud Ahmad Wamakko, Board Members, the Director of Professional Development UBEC, Mr Alishen, the Acting Director of Administration SUBEB, Tukur Abdullahi, and other principal officers of the board.
