In a sweeping administrative move designed to reposition the basic education sector, the Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has approved the immediate redeployment of Education Secretaries across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

The decision signals a strategic effort to strengthen oversight, improve service delivery, and inject renewed efficiency into the management of primary education at the grassroots level.

The sweeping directive, announced on Wednesday, forms part of a comprehensive reform strategy designed to reposition the state’s education system in line with national priorities and global best practices in school governance and learning outcomes.

Addressing the development, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Umaru Nagwari Tambuwal, described the action as “a strategic administrative intervention to drive efficiency, strengthen accountability, and stimulate innovation in grassroots education management.”

He emphasized that the redeployment was carefully conceived to ensure that “competent and experienced personnel are strategically reassigned to areas where their expertise will yield maximum impact,” stressing that the exercise is reform-oriented rather than punitive.

Tambuwal further linked the initiative to the broader education transformation agenda of the Sokoto State Government under Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, which places strong emphasis on access, quality, and effective sector governance.

“This decision marks a critical milestone in our efforts to revitalise schools, enhance supervision, and ultimately improve teaching and learning outcomes across the state,” he stated.

He reiterated the board’s commitment to providing the necessary support framework for the affected officials, urging them to uphold professionalism, diligence, and a results-driven approach in their new assignments.

“All redeployed officers are to report to their new duty posts without delay and work in synergy with relevant stakeholders to advance the delivery of quality basic education to every child,” Tambuwal added.

The SUBEB chairman also appealed to local government authorities, school heads, and community leaders to cooperate fully with the reassigned officials to ensure a smooth transition and sustained progress in the sector.

In an official statement signed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Murtala Muhammad Danladi Tsamaye, the redeployment was characterised as a routine yet strategic measure to boost operational efficiency and service delivery.

“The board will sustain performance monitoring and undertake periodic adjustments in line with its unwavering commitment to excellence in basic education,” the statement noted.

Education stakeholders across the state have largely welcomed the move, describing it as timely and necessary amid growing concerns over foundational learning gaps and administrative inefficiencies in the sector.

Policy analysts, however, caution that the long-term success of the exercise will depend on effective implementation, consistent monitoring, and the readiness of all actors within the system to embrace reform-driven change.

With this decisive action, Sokoto aligns with a broader national trend of institutional reforms aimed at strengthening education systems, enhancing human capital development, and securing better learning outcomes for future generations.
