Rano Air commercial flight from Abuja to Sokoto made an emergency landing at the Sultan Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto, on June 29 after one of its engines caught fire mid-air, police authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

Zagazola Makama gathered that the incident occurred at about 2:35 p.m. while the aircraft was on its final approach to the airport.

The pilot quickly alerted the control tower, prompting the immediate deployment of emergency response teams, including aerodrome firefighters, who extinguished the engine fire.

“All passengers and crew members disembarked safely, and no injury or casualty was recorded,” the police said.

The affected aircraft was successfully secured and inspected, while routine safety protocols were activated to ensure continued operations at the airport.

A detailed investigation into the incident is expected to be carried out by relevant aviation authorities.
