The Nigeria Police Force has announced the successful rescue of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, who were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on June 3, 2026.
The victims were rescued unharmed during a coordinated intelligence-led operation carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
According to the Police, Mrs. Adegoke and her children were kidnapped while she was driving the twins to school at approximately 7:30 a.m. on June 3, triggering an intensive search and rescue operation by security agencies.
A statement issued on Saturday by the Force spokesperson, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the successful operation was the result of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical interventions by operatives who tracked the movements of the kidnappers over several days.
The statement revealed that investigators were able to locate the criminal gang’s hideout after painstaking intelligence work, leading to a confrontation between the kidnappers and FID-IRT operatives.
During the operation, two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded, while security personnel recovered two rifles believed to have been used by the criminal syndicate.
The rescued victims were immediately evacuated from the scene and taken into protective custody. Police authorities confirmed that Mrs. Adegoke and her children were rescued without injuries and are currently receiving medical attention, counselling, and other necessary support.
The development has brought relief to family members, friends, and residents who had expressed concern over the safety of the victims following their abduction.
Commending the operatives involved in the mission, the Inspector-General of Police praised the courage, professionalism, and operational efficiency displayed throughout the rescue effort.
He noted that the determination and resilience of the officers were instrumental in ensuring the safe return of the hostages without harm.
“The successful rescue underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and combating violent crimes across the country,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified operations to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the encounter.
Preliminary intelligence reports indicate that some fleeing suspects may have sustained gunshot injuries during the confrontation.
Security operatives have consequently launched an extensive manhunt to track down and arrest all individuals connected to the crime.
The Police assured members of the public that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the criminal network and bring all perpetrators to justice.
The Force also expressed appreciation to residents and members of the public for their cooperation, patience, and support throughout the operation, noting that community collaboration remains vital in the fight against insecurity.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force pledged to continue deploying intelligence-driven strategies and proactive security measures aimed at tackling kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes across the country.
The rescue operation is being viewed as another significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb kidnapping and strengthen public confidence in national security operations.
