The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed as false a viral video circulating on social media alleging an ongoing terrorist attack in Abuja, assuring residents that no such incident occurred.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Force spokesperson, Anthony Okon Placid, the police described the claims contained in the video as “entirely false, misleading, and malicious.”

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the footage was deliberately manipulated using misleading content sourced from online platforms to create a false narrative.

The intent, the police said, was to incite panic, spread fear among the public, and undermine confidence in the security architecture of the nation’s capital.

The NPF further disclosed that a suspect, identified as Pam Joseph, has been arrested in connection with the creation and dissemination of the video.

The arrest followed credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations linking the individual to the origin and circulation of the false content.

The Force emphasized that while citizens have the right to freedom of expression, such rights do not extend to the deliberate spread of misinformation that threatens public peace and national security.

It urged members of the public to verify information before sharing and to avoid actions that could incite fear or disorder.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force said it will continue to monitor digital platforms and take decisive action against individuals involved in spreading false or misleading information.
