The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members will no longer be mobilized for national service without obtaining clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The directive comes as the scheme intensifies preparations for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ mobilisation and strengthens measures to safeguard prospective corps members during their journeys to orientation camps.
In a public notice posted on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC declared that NERD clearance is now compulsory for all prospective corps members (PCMs) and urged them to complete the process early to avoid delays in mobilization.
“This is to inform PCMs that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilization,” the scheme stated.
Reinforcing the directive, the NYSC added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”
Although the scheme did not provide details of the clearance process, the new requirement signals a stricter verification system ahead of the next orientation exercise.
The advisory comes shortly after the NYSC announced the mobilization of prospective corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation before the orientation program.
It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the scheme warned prospective corps members against travelling at night to orientation camps.
The NYSC advised them to break long journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and security formations, rather than risk travelling after dark.
The twin advisories underscore the scheme’s efforts to strengthen the credibility of its mobilization process while enhancing the safety of prospective corps members amid persistent security concerns on Nigerian highways.
With mobilisation activities underway, the NYSC urged all prospective corps members to complete every registration and verification requirement, including the newly emphasized NERD clearance, before reporting to their respective orientation camps.
