The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA) has adopted and harmonized its revised 2026 Operational Guidelines as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare governance and improve service delivery across the state.
The development reinforces the agency’s commitment to advancing the healthcare component of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Kano First Agenda through a more efficient and accountable health insurance system.
The revised guidelines were adopted at the end of a technical meeting held at the E-Health Africa Conference Hall in Kano, where departmental directors, heads of units, and technical staff reviewed and harmonised the operational framework that will guide the implementation of the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme.
The technical review, adoption, and harmonisation exercise was chaired by the Permanent Secretary, Kano State Ministry of Science and Technology, Abba A. Danguguwa, who represented the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar.
Speaking at the meeting, Danguguwa described the exercise as a significant step towards institutional excellence, noting that the revised guidelines would strengthen governance, standardise operational processes, improve accountability, and enhance the efficiency of healthcare service delivery throughout the state.
He commended participants for their professionalism and technical input, saying their collaborative efforts produced a comprehensive operational document that reflects current realities, aligns with national best practices, and provides a clear roadmap for effective programme implementation.
During the meeting, participants conducted extensive technical deliberations, reviewed key operational provisions, harmonised departmental submissions, and considered recommendations before unanimously adopting the revised 2026 Operational Guidelines.
Danguguwa reaffirmed the commitment of the agency’s management to implementing reforms that support Governor Yusuf’s healthcare agenda by strengthening healthcare financing, improving institutional performance, expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare services, and accelerating the attainment of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Kano State.
The adoption of the revised guidelines, he said, demonstrates KSCHMA’s continued commitment to institutional improvement, operational efficiency, and the delivery of responsive, equitable, and people-centred healthcare services for residents of Kano State.
