Kevin Durant is officially a Houston Rocket after a record-setting seven-team NBA trade involving 13 players and multiple draft picks.

The deal, finalized on Sunday as the league’s new season began, marks the largest trade in NBA history—surpassing last year’s six-team transaction that sent Klay Thompson to Dallas.

The blockbuster trade includes the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Los Angeles Lakers.

Durant, 36, leaves the Phoenix Suns after a short but impactful stint. A former league MVP, two-time NBA champion with the Warriors, and 15-time All-Star, Durant also holds four Olympic gold medals and recently became the eighth player in NBA history to score 30,000 career points.

Taking to social media, Durant expressed gratitude for his time in Arizona and excitement for the next chapter. “My time in Phoenix has come to an end. All these stops along the journey have really impacted me in a positive way… Houston, Can’t Wait!” he wrote.

Rockets head coach Ime Udoka welcomed the superstar: “His skill level, love of basketball, and dedication to his craft have made him one of the most respected players of his generation. My staff and I are excited to work with him.”

The Rockets, who finished second in the Western Conference last season but fell in the first round of the playoffs, now gain a major boost in their bid for a deeper playoff run.

What Each Team Gets:

Houston Rockets receive Kevin Durant from the Suns and Swiss center Clint Capela from the Hawks, marking Capela’s return to Houston where he started his career.

Phoenix Suns acquire 18-year-old South Sudanese center Khaman Maluach (10th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft), forward Dillon Brooks, guard Jalen Green, Atlanta wing Daeqwon Plowden, Minnesota forward Rasheer Fleming, Golden State guard Koby Brea, and two future draft picks.

Atlanta Hawks gain David Roddy, cash considerations, and a 2031 draft pick swap from the Rockets.

Brooklyn Nets receive two future second-round picks and send forward Adou Thiero to the Lakers.

Los Angeles Lakers acquire Adou Thiero from Brooklyn.

Golden State Warriors receive Australian forward Alex Toohey (initially drafted by Phoenix) and guard Jahmai Mashack (the Rockets’ final pick in the 2025 Draft).

Minnesota Timberwolves get two future draft picks from the Suns and 18-year-old Australian center Rocco Zikarsky, drafted by the Lakers.

Phoenix Suns GM Brian Gregory praised Durant’s contributions, saying, “Kevin made a lasting impact on our team and community. We wish him the best as he continues his legendary career in Houston.”

As Durant begins a new chapter, the Rockets emerge as one of the most talked-about teams in a rapidly evolving NBA landscape.
