Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the creation of a new district comprising eight Village Areas in Dandi Local Government Area and the establishment of a new village headship in Augie Local Government Area.
The approval was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsinmari, and issued to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
According to the commissioner, the newly created district is Buma District, which was carved out of the existing Dolekaina District in Dandi LGA.
The governor approved the appointment of Salisu Hakimi as the District Head of Buma.
The new district comprises eight Village Areas: Tunga Rafi, Gamana, Tudunsan, Gillare, Bump Town, Goraro, Bukki and Alfarma Kwara.
In a related development, Governor Idris also approved the creation of a new village headship in Augie Local Government Area.
Nasiru Umar Maizabo was subsequently appointed as the Village Head of Marafan Garin Haruna in Tiggi District.
The commissioner said the appointments and creation of the traditional administrative units were made in accordance with the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, particularly Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B), which empower the relevant authorities to create districts and appoint district heads.
Dutsinmari urged the newly appointed traditional rulers to uphold discipline, honesty, transparency and dedication in the discharge of their responsibilities.
He said their appointments were based on their track records and assured them of the support and cooperation of the governor and the Ministry.
“Your appointments were made based on your records. Rest assured of the Governor’s and the Ministry’s support and cooperation,” the commissioner said.
