The Kano State Ministry of Justice and the Kano State Police Command have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration aimed at improving the administration of criminal justice in the state.

This followed a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Ministry of Justice, led by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Abdullahi Ibrahim Muhammad, to the Police Command Headquarters in Bompai on Wednesday.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the delegation included Assistant DPP I, Zaharaddeen Kofar Mata, and Assistant DPP II, Safiya Yalwata Yahaya.

They were received by senior officers of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CID, Shehu Idris, alongside the Assistant Commissioner of Police, CID, Wada Jarma, and sectional heads of the department.

Speaking during the visit, the DPP said the engagement was aimed at fostering stronger cooperation between the police, the Ministry of Justice, and other stakeholders within the criminal justice system.

According to him, the interaction would help identify areas requiring collaboration, bridge operational gaps affecting justice delivery, and address training and retraining needs for officers handling criminal cases.

“We are here at the Kano State Police Command to interact directly with officers handling high-profile criminal cases, identify areas of collaboration, and bridge any existing gaps that may hinder effective justice delivery,” he said.

Muhammad added that discussions during the visit also focused on emerging criminal trends, institutional challenges, and the need for a unified approach in upholding the rule of law.

Responding on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Lawal Isah Mani, described the visit as a significant step toward institutional cooperation.

He noted that enhanced collaboration between the police and the Ministry of Justice would improve case management, ensure timely prosecution, and strengthen the protection of the rights of victims and suspects.

Mani also assured the delegation that observations and recommendations raised during the session would be addressed promptly, while urging supervising officers and sectional heads of the CID to ensure professionalism, accountability, and adherence to due process in investigations.

The interactive session covered prosecutorial procedures, case file preparation, evidence handling, and the challenges of prosecuting crimes such as cybercrime, drug trafficking, and violent offences.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to regular inter-agency engagements, capacity building, and strict compliance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kano State, 2019.

The Police Command stated that it would continue to work closely with the Ministry of Justice and other stakeholders to ensure justice is delivered swiftly and fairly across the state.
