Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, 1 September 2026, a work-free day to enable residents to celebrate Takutaha, an annual traditional and religious occasion observed in the state.
The declaration was contained in Circular No. 7/2026 signed by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Abba A. Danguguwa, on behalf of the State’s Head of Service.
According to the circular, the work-free day corresponds with 19th Rabi’ul Awwal, 1448AH, and was approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The government described Takutaha as an important traditional and religious occasion with deep spiritual and cultural significance to the people of Kano and an integral part of the state’s Islamic heritage.
It urged civil servants across the state to use the occasion for prayers, supplications and spiritual reflection, particularly seeking divine blessings for continued peace, unity, stability and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria.
The circular directed heads of ministries, departments and agencies to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
However, the government said essential services would continue to operate in line with established procedures.
The circular was addressed to senior government officials, including the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government, commissioners, permanent secretaries, heads of boards and commissions, local government audit authorities and chief executives of state-owned agencies and companies.
