The Imo State Government has approved the immediate recruitment of 6,030 teachers to strengthen teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, said the recruitment was part of the government’s broader efforts to address manpower shortages and improve the quality of education.
Emelumba said the newly recruited teachers had completed a six-week intensive training programme at the state-owned Ben Uwajimogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma.
According to him, the recruitment was carried out to fill existing vacancies and address teaching gaps across the state’s 27 local government areas.
“This is the first time in a long time that this large number of teachers is being injected into the school system at once,” the commissioner said.
He added that Governor Hope Uzodimma would personally address the newly recruited teachers at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, Owerri, during a meeting scheduled for 10 am.
Emelumba, however, clarified that attendance at the meeting would be restricted to teachers who participated in the six-week training program at Ihitte Uboma.
