Governor Yusuf to Receives NMA’s Highest Honour

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is set to be conferred with the highest fellowship award by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Katsina State tomorrow, Tuesday, in recognition of his outstanding support for the advancement of healthcare services across the state.

The Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced at the 27th Executive Council Meeting held at the Government House Annex, Kwankwasiyya City, on Monday.

According to the statement, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, informed Governor Yusuf of the prestigious honour, highlighting the medical profession’s deep appreciation for his unwavering commitment to healthcare development.

The Commissioner further revealed that the Kano State Branch of the NMA had earlier conferred an Award of Excellence on Governor Yusuf ahead of the national event in Katsina, as a demonstration of their steadfast support for his administration.

Presenting the award, the Chairman of the Kano State NMA, Dr. Abdurrahman Ali, emphasized that Governor Yusuf’s transformative impact on the health sector is unmatched.

He cited notable achievements, including the provision of free healthcare services at Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital and Marmara Primary Healthcare Centre, as well as the implementation of the Abba Care free medication programme for sickle cell patients.

Dr. Ali also commended Governor Yusuf for introducing a salary scale for medical doctors in Kano State that surpasses that of their counterparts at the federal level, underscoring the administration’s prioritization of healthcare workers’ welfare.

He further praised initiatives such as the Kano State Contributory Healthcare Scheme and the establishment of the new Disease Control Centre, which he described as one of the best in Nigeria.

In a separate development during the Executive Council Meeting, the Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Ali Namadi, presented the Kano State Transportation Policy Documents to Governor Yusuf.

He noted that the policy, only the second of its kind in the country, would serve as a blueprint for sustainable transportation development and commended the Governor for his vision and commitment in making it a reality.
