In the spirit of Eid El Kabir, the Kano State Government has donated tens of well-fed cattle, assorted foodstuffs, essential commodities, and one million naira in cash to inmates at the Kurmawa Correctional Facility.
The donation, which was conveyed on behalf of the Governor by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouq Ibrahim, reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals.
Speaking during the presentation at Kurmawa on Wednesday, Alhaji Farouq noted that although Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf could not attend in person due to his spiritual obligations in Mecca, he was spiritually present and was keen to follow the event’s live broadcast.
“The Governor has a genuine concern for the welfare of all citizens, including those in correctional facilities.
“Being in custody is not the end—it is a phase for correction and reintegration. These individuals are not outcasts, and our government will continue to treat them with dignity and care,” Farouq said.
He said that the gesture is part of a broader plan to uplift the lives of inmates, including access to health care, education, and vocational training programs aimed at easing reintegration into society.
“This is just the beginning. Inmates have been enrolled in health schemes, skill acquisition programs, and other initiatives that foster a strong sense of belonging and purpose,” he added.
In response, management of the correctional facility expressed deep appreciation for the state government’s continuous support.
They prayed for divine rewards for the Governor, asking Allah to grant him wisdom, strength, and enduring health.
