On Monday, Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, inspected the Damaturu drainage project for an on-the-spot assessment.
In a statement, Mamman Mohammad, DG Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, quoted Buni as saying he has directed the contractors handling the project to increase speed.
“This project should be completed before the commencement of the rainy season.
“It must not be delayed to avoid the backlash of the rain water and flooding into people’s houses,” Buni warned.
Governor Buni said he would continue to monitor the project closely until completion.
He assured the government’s commitment to meeting its obligations to hasten completion of the work.
It would be recalled that the Yobe state government awarded a contract for the construction of water channels and embankments in Buni Yadi and Damaturu to check floods and harvest the rain water to promote irrigation.
