With hearts full of gratitude and reverence, Christians on Monday across Sokoto State gathered at the Trade Fair Complex, Old Airport, for the 2025 Easter Praise and Prayer for Peace.

The event, themed “He Is Risen”, was a moment of spiritual renewal and intercession, drawing believers from different denominations, tribes, and backgrounds.

Speaking at the gathering, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Sokoto State Chapter reverend James Kayode Moses, emphasized the importance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the foundation of the Christian faith.

“Our theme this year, ‘He Is Risen,’ is more than a declaration—it is the heartbeat of our faith. In Matthew 28:6, the angel told the women at the tomb, ‘He is not here; for He is risen, as He said.’ This proclamation changed history. It is a declaration of victory, a call to hope, and a reminder of the enduring power of God’s love,” he said.

He stressed that the resurrection symbolizes triumph over death, the power of light over darkness, and the potential for peace amid national chaos.

He noted that in the face of Nigeria’s security challenges, economic struggles, and social unrest, Christians must draw strength from the resurrection and rise above fear and division.

“This gathering is not just a celebration, but a call to unity and intercession. We are here to pray for peace in our land, for the safety of every citizen, and for wisdom for our leaders,” he added.

The CAN Chairman also called on the Nigerian government to take urgent action to end violence and insecurity across the country. He cited ongoing bloodshed in states like Plateau, Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, Edo, and Borno, stressing that citizens deserve to live in peace wherever they reside.

“Let me call on the government to end the bloodshed. Our people are living in fear. Security is not a privilege, it is a right.

“Any government that fails to protect its citizens is failing in its duty. Nigerians are entitled to safety and freedom,” he said.

He called for sincere efforts from leaders at all levels to restore peace and fulfill their constitutional responsibilities. “As we pray for peace, I urge the government to work harder. Be aware of your responsibilities,” he declared.

The Chairman expressed appreciation to the planning committee, pastors, music ministers, youth groups, technical teams, and every attendee who contributed to the success of the event.

He reminded the congregation that Easter is not just a celebration but a moment to activate the power of resurrection for the healing of the state and the nation.

“May the power of the resurrection be made manifest in our lives, in our churches, and in our beloved nation. May the peace of Christ reign in Sokoto State, now and always,” he concluded

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah however used the occasion to console the entire Christian followers over the death of Pop Francis who died today in Vatican at the age 88.A2025 Easter Praise
