Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has charged newly turbaned District Heads to embrace wide consultation and inclusive leadership as a cornerstone for sustainable peace and development, stressing that traditional institutions remain critical to Nigeria’s stability.

Speaking at the historic turbaning and royal shaving ceremony held in Wamakko Local Government Area, the governor said decisions affecting local communities must reflect collective wisdom and shared responsibility.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, the governor emphasized the need for the traditional rulers to prioritize unity, security, and grassroots development in line with national aspirations.

“Our administration will accord all District Heads the utmost support they require to succeed in the running of their domains,” he assured.

He added, “You must always consult widely before taking decisions that affect your people. Leadership at this level demands patience, fairness, and a deep sense of responsibility.”

Governor Aliyu further urged the traditional leaders to intensify prayers and community driven initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.

“They should ensure that more fervent prayers are offered for the restoration of security in the state and Nigeria in general,” he appealed.

The governor also advised the newly installed Baraden Wamakko and District Head of Wamakko, Ahmad Barade, to uphold the legacy of his forebears and preserve the integrity of the revered traditional institution.

“Leadership requires compassion and passion. You must draw from your wealth of experience to take your district to greater heights,” he said, urging residents to cooperate fully with their new leader.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, HRM Sa’ad Abubakar, represented by the Wazirin Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, pledged the support of the Sultanate Council to the newly installed District Heads.

He called on them to demonstrate credible leadership and inclusivity, noting, “You must carry everyone along in the discharge of your responsibilities, as traditional leadership is a trust bestowed on you by the people.”

Delivering a goodwill message, the Minister of State for Works, Barrister Muhammad Bello Goronyo, described Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko as “a humble, pious and committed leader whose influence continues to inspire unity and progress.”

Other dignitaries, including Ambassador Abubakar Shehu Wurno and the Jarman Sokoto, Alhaji Unarun Kwabo A.A., also praised the new District Head, describing him as “pious, patient and highly dedicated to community service.”

In a welcome address, the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area, Umar Ahmad Dundaye, described the occasion as historic and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions.

“We will provide the needed cooperation to ensure the success of the new leadership in Wamakko,” he stated.

Responding, the new Baraden Wamakko, Alhaji Ahmad Barade, described his installation as an epochal moment and pledged to lead with justice, fairness, and inclusivity.

“I am deeply honoured by the confidence reposed in me by the government, the Sultanate Council, and our people. I will strive to be fair and just to all, regardless of ethnic or religious differences,” he vowed.

The ceremony reached its peak with the turbaning of six additional traditional title holders, marking a renewed commitment to strengthening grassroots leadership structures in Sokoto State.
