From January to October 2024, two instances of rabies were reported in the state of Bauchi, according to the state government.
The number showed a 90% reduction from the 20 rabies cases reported in 2023.
The Director Veterinary Services, Bauchi State state Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Ibrahim, stated it on Thursday.
Bello thanked the state administration for taking preemptive steps to contain the illness for the accomplishment.
However, he claimed that there has been a noticeable rise in dog bite incidents, with 199 occurrences reported since January.
“Not all dog bites are caused by rabies, with 132 happening in the Bauchi Local Government Area alone,” he stated.
Bello claimed that the illness still poses a serious risk to public health and that, if clinical symptoms manifest, there is virtually no hope of recovery.
