Participants at the ongoing 25th Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) training program in Kano have commended the organisers for their exceptional hospitality, professionalism and the high quality of the two-week capacity-building workshop.
The participants, who are senior civil servants on Grade Levels 13 and 14, described the program as one of the most impactful professional development initiatives they have attended, saying it has significantly enhanced their leadership and administrative competencies.
The workshop, holding at the State Library Conference Hall in Kano, is aimed at strengthening participants’ capacity in public administration, leadership and effective service delivery. Attendees also praised ASCON officials for creating a conducive learning environment through their dedication, patience and professionalism.
Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of ASCON, Mrs. A.O. Olabimitan, the Deputy Director of the Training Department lauded the participants for their discipline, commitment and active participation throughout the programme. She noted that their enthusiasm reflected a genuine desire to acquire new knowledge and contribute more effectively to public service.
Earlier, the Head of the Kano State Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Mai-Mota, said the training was organised to build a corps of competent, ethical and accountable civil servants capable of meeting the demands of modern governance.
She commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising human capital development through sustained investment in staff training, retraining and the recruitment of qualified professionals to strengthen the state’s public service.
In his keynote address, Governor Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to continuous capacity building for civil servants.
He said the government would sustain initiatives aimed at improving workforce competence, strengthening public institutions and enhancing efficient service delivery, stressing that a productive civil service remains critical to Kano State’s socio-economic development.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Musa Ibrahim Ahmad, popularly known as “Best Seller,” expressed appreciation to the ASCON organising committee for engaging highly experienced facilitators who delivered practical and insightful lectures throughout the programme.
He also thanked Governor Yusuf for restoring opportunities for civil servants to benefit from regular capacity-building programmes, describing the initiative as a major boost to professionalism and efficiency within the state civil service.
Musa further commended Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Mai-Mota for her exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the successful organisation of the workshop.
Another participant, Hajiya Hassana Aliyu, praised Mrs. Olabimitan for her patience, dedication and determination to ensure that every participant fully understood each aspect of the training.
She said the organisers had exceeded expectations, adding that the Hausa proverb, “Kwalliya ta biya kuɗin sabulu”—meaning the effort was truly worthwhile—aptly captured the overall success of the programme.
She concluded by praying for continued success for the Kano State Government and the leadership of the state civil service in their efforts to build a more efficient and professional workforce.
