The Kano State Government has commenced a diphtheria immunisation campaign across five Local Government Areas (LGAs) as part of efforts to protect residents and curb the spread of the disease.
A statement issued by Rukayya Jafar Suleiman, State Risk Communication and Community Engagement Officer of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), the exercise is being conducted in Dala, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso and Ungogo LGAs.
According to the statement, the campaign covers selected wards across the five LGAs, urging residents to make themselves and their family members available to receive the vaccine.
The affected wards include Gobirawa, Kofar Ruwa, Kwachiri, Rijiyar Lemo, Dorayi, Kabuga, Chiranchi, Naibawa, Fanshekara, Bachirawa, Gayawa, Rijiyar Zaki and Ungogo.
The statement particularly advised residents whose immunization status is unknown, as well as those who received their last dose more than 10 years ago, to visit designated vaccination centres.
“Diphtheria vaccination is safe and effective, stressing that immunization remains one of the key measures for protecting individuals and communities against the disease.”
KNCDC urged parents and other residents to encourage their family members to participate in the exercise, noting that increased community participation would strengthen efforts to prevent the spread of diphtheria.
It also advised residents to obtain accurate information from health authorities and take advantage of the ongoing vaccination campaign to protect themselves and their families.
